Today's most useful AI tools for recruitment and applications

One of the most important recruitment trends is the application of Artificial Intelligence. (AI) In 2023, more and more people discovered the possibilities of AI tools in recruitment and we saw the first applications appear. With artificial intelligence, you can speed up processes or even completely automate them while improving the candidate experience. Logical that many employers want to get started with this! But what can you already do with it? And which AI tools are the most interesting? Find out in this blog!

AI for recruitment: Mega hype and in its infancy at the same time

With the going live of ChatGPT on 30 November 2022, the application of AI in daily (working) life took flight. Now almost everyone knows the term Artificial Intelligence, or artificial intelligence in Dutch, and the use of ChatGPT is growing at lightning speed. In the first 2 months after going live, this AI tool already had 100 million users worldwide. Unprecedented!

So we can say that AI is an all-changing trend, but at the same time it is still in its infancy. In our webinar of 12 December 2023, we asked participants about their use of AI tools in recruitment and only 20% of viewers have a paid account of an AI tool.

Even if we look at the development of AI, we are still in the first phase. In fact, you can distinguish 3 stages in the development journey of artificial intelligence.

  1. Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI)
This form of AI is still quite limited. It focuses mainly on language and there are only a small number of other applications. ANI can perform tasks faster and/or more thoroughly than humans, but is no more intelligent or creative than us. Current AI tools and applications belong to ANI.
  2. Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)
At this stage, AI is becoming equivalent to human intelligence. We are not here yet, although rumours are circulating that we are very close to this. AGI is probably not long in coming.
  3. Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI)
In the latest form of AI, the technology is smarter than us. ASI is superior to humans in every way, both in terms of intelligence and creativity. This is the form that ethicists are raising concerns about.

Finally, AI can be divided into two types: everyday AI and game-changing AI. We see mostly everyday AI coming back now. Everyday AI improves productivity because it speeds up or automates processes. As a result, no human hand needs to be involved. With gamechanging AI - the word says it all - we are talking about big changes that completely transform industries and services. We see little gamechanging AI now, but as large companies and tech start-ups embrace AI and assign it a major role in their strategy for the coming period, there is a good chance that we will see gamechanging AI more often in 2024.

The most popular AI recruitment tools

In short, there is still a lot to come in the field of artificial intelligence. Yet there are all kinds of opportunities to apply AI for recruitment purposes right now. We list some useful AI tools for you and show you what you can do with them.

ChatGPT

The best-known AI tool at the moment is ChatGPT. This AI tool can especially help you draft, improve and check texts. For instance, you can ask ChatGPT to review your job posting text and suggest improvements, have Cialdini's principles added to your social media posts, summarise a job posting for InMails or generate additional ad texts for A/B testing.

To get a good result, it is crucial to ask ChatGPT your question in the right way. Such a command or question to ChatGPT is called a prompt. The more detailed you make your prompt, the stronger the texts that roll out. If you ask ChatGPT to draft social media posts, provide information about the target audience, tone-of-voice, job posting, team and organisation, for example.

With plug-ins, you can make using ChatGPT even more valuable. Here are 5 plug-ins that let you get the most out of ChatGPT:

  • Voxscript: This tool creates a summary of a YouTube video. This way, you don't have to watch a 20-minute video to get the essence out of it, but see it quickly and clearly appear as text on your screen.
  • Dall-E 3: Generate images using AI. Useful for social media posts, job pages and more!
  • Zapier: This tool lets you link all kinds of applications and set up automations. This saves you a lot of manual work.
  • There's an AI for that: This plug-in shows which AIs are currently available for your query. For example, if you are looking for an AI tool for video editing, 'There's an AI for that' gives you an instant overview of the options.
  • Prompt Perfect: The better your prompts, the better your output. However - especially as an AI newbie - it is quite difficult to know exactly how to set up your prompts. Prompt Perfect helps you by supplementing and improving your prompts.

Kapwing AI

Kapwing is an AI tool for video and podcast editing. Using Kapwing AI, you can, for example, add subtitles, cut a video in logical places, remove silences or remove background noise. This way, you increase the quality of your video in no time, even without strong editing skills!

Midjourney

This revolutionary AI tool transforms textual descriptions into high-quality images. You describe what you want to see and Midjourney turns it into an image! This can come in very handy for additional images on your work-at-home website or social media posts. Especially if you have no suitable photos of colleagues or your locations.

Friso, Lead Recruitment Marketer at Wortell, even used Midjourney for much of the concept development of their comic book. The comic book was part of a recruitment marketing campaign. Based on the concept superhero that Midjourney developed, he was able to make adjustments using Dall-E 2 (predecessor of Dall-E 3) and Adobe Firefly and then send them to the comic book artist. This saved him a huge amount of time and money, because in traditional feedback rounds with a design agency, you always have to wait for your feedback to be processed. In addition, the cost of using these tools was only €20 a month. An agency can't beat that!

Microsoft Designer

A fairly new AI tool comes from Microsoft. With Microsoft Designer you can generate and edit images, create designs for social media posts, for example, or have illustrations created for your work-at-home site. And it's free too!

Runway

If you have created cool images via Midjourney or Microsoft Designer, you can then bring them to life with Runway. This AI tool turns still images into moving video. You can, of course, do the same with 'real photos'. You can use this tool, for example, to create a job video or create a social media post with video. Good for interaction and the reach of your post!

Important note

Before you can reap the benefits of productivity improvements from AI tools, it is important that you invest a lot of time in learning AI principles and discovering tooling. You need to be able to free up that time, which is why it is important to include the application of AI in your recruitment strategy.

Friso speaks from experience in the AI webinar and not surprisingly quotes this quote from Omdenken: "Taking all the time is the best way not to lose a second." He has invested a lot of time exploring AI possibilities, including from interest, and now it is paying off. He is spending about 20% to 30% less time on certain tasks and is seeing quality improvements in various areas.

A peek in the AI kitchen at MrWork

As a software developer, we obviously can't wait to apply AI in our recruitment marketing software. In fact, within now and 2 years, AI will be central to MrWork software. We are currently working on the following AI applications in our software:

  • Automated content creation: Soon you will be able to have your recruitment campaigns live even faster, because you will have AI create ad texts in your tone-of-voice. Also, using AI, you will have the ability to shorten longer employer branding videos to make them suitable for social media.
  • Optimising your campaigns: you already have a very clear overview of all the data in the MrWork dashboard, but with AI we can go a step further. After all, what does this data tell you? And when is a CTR actually good? With the integration of AI in our recruitment marketing software, interpreting data becomes easier and you get clear advice on how to improve your campaigns.
  • Skill-based matching and knowledge base: Through lead generation tooling, you easily get in touch with candidates and receive all kinds of queries. With AI, you can automatically match these candidates to vacancies based on their skills. In addition, you can automatically refer candidates - based on their question - to the right person in the organisation or an article that answers their question. This way, candidates are helped quickly and effectively!

Will AI take over recruiters' jobs?

A common question - and perhaps concern - of the moment: is AI going to take over our jobs? When it comes to recruitment, we are united: 93% of webinar participants think humans will always matter in recruitment. Mees (founder MrWork) and Friso absolutely agree with that.

Yet you cannot completely ignore AI as a recruiter or recruitment marketer. In fact, AI creates such great efficiencies and quality improvements that you won't be productive enough in the future without using AI in your work. AI won't take your job, but someone using AI will. So make sure you keep up with the times and use AI intelligently to make your work more efficient and certainly more fun. After all, with AI you can automate repetitive tasks and then you can spend your time nicely on work where you as a human really make a difference.
